Antimicrobial Resistance - NDPHS

Antimicrobial Resistance

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is risking the effectiveness of antibiotics and other antimicrobials to treat simple infections. To address this public health threat, our thematic work on this topic aims to increase knowledge and understanding of antimicrobial resistance among policymakers and healthcare professionals.

Bacteria, parasites, and fungi are developing abilities to defeat the drugs designed to kill them. If antibiotics and other antimicrobials lose their effectiveness, we lose our ability to treat many, even simple infections. Antimicrobial resistance is a complex problem that requires united action between policymakers and healthcare professionals, and across countries and sectors.

Antimicrobial resistance calls for in-depth research to understand its causes and effects. Our AMR Expert Group promotes knowledge sharing between countries. They also undertake joint research that provides data and analysis on topics that have not been systematically studied in the region before.
