Health in the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region
The NDPHS is the Coordinator for the Policy Area “Health” (PA Health) in the European Union Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR). The Strategy aims to address a selected range of challenges faced by the region, among them considerable disparities in health conditions, escalating environmental threats, gaps in economic development and lack of properly connected transportation links. These challenges are obstacles that prevent development in the region. The EUSBSR has three objectives: to save the sea, connect the region, and increase prosperity.
A healthy population in the Baltic Sea Region is a prerequisite for productivity, economic competitiveness and further development. By aiming to improve the health and well-being of people in the Baltic Sea Region, the Policy Area ‘Health’ contributes to the objective of increasing prosperity in the region.
The Policy Area “Health” has three priorities for action:
Promoting active and healthy ageing to address the challenges and opportunities of demographic change;
Promoting a Health in All Policies approach;
Increasing stakeholder and institutional capacity to tackle regional health challenges.
